DRAFT NIGHT RECAP
Well. Well. Well. Folks... Another corkball draft in the books.
Catchers picked this year. And it was a FUCKING disaster.
First off...
How does the Future expect to bend his fat ass over and catch the ball this year...?
That almost as good of a question as...
How does Mike Jung win so many championships?
Tootsie Roll pop type of shit. I guess.
Ok. Enuff of the bullshit.
Let's get on to the draft summary...
Fuck I'm too tired. Just check the schedule... It's up now. Teams are entered too.
I'll talk about BOGO Big Macs, Wackoff Color, Clark's Entourage, Gerald Brown's fallacy of a presidency, the new blood, not Joe Blood, in the club this year, blah. blah. blah... Another time.
Just listen to the sweet tune playing on your PC's. Scroll up to the top picture. And jsut think how Mike Jung feels...
TEAM #3 WINS THE JACKETS
Team #3 pulled out the jacket win over Team #1 in a hard, tense 1-0, 8-ing battle. Both teams had scoring chances throughout the game
but just like the week before, it never fails, "The Pest" Mike "I only win championships" Jung came thru with a extra inning, walkoff, bases-loaded, 2-out single in the bottom of the 8th to win it. Vic "The Crazy Cuban" Vigil also had a big day going 5/6. Brian Timmons had 3 hits for Team #1 and John Greffet had 2 hits and pitched shutout ball the whole game but it all came down to Team #1 letting Jung slip by them in the draft and not being able to squash "The Pest" in the finals.
Jung couldn't hit the side of a barn until like week 11 and he was the mockery of his team - but he kept them loose with the joking around - and Ray Timmons shouted at him from fields over every AB telling him how much he sucked and that he was garbage. It's all in "The Pest" gameplan... you keep him around long enough and he will come back and sting you in the ass! That's 5 jackets total for Jung and for out of the last 5 years... I think Paul Thomas is worried. He certainly moved up the draft board for next year.
Thanks to Lou Cole for umping. It's never easy umping in games like that. And, thanks to everyone in the club for another successful season! 2012 will sure be a doozy!
Below is a list of every week's box/score stats and weekly total. If someone has an error with their stats.. find it on the sheet where they are worng and send an email. Note: Weeks 9&10, 13&14, 17&18 are combined becaus eof DH's.
FINALS UPDATE
In the semis, Team #1 got up early 3-0 on Team #2 with a Brian Timmons triple and scored a few times again to win 7-0.
On the other field, Team #3 prevailed in 12 ings after a huge day by Jason Gillick in the field and at the plate. Gillick tripled in the 12th and Mike "The Pest" Jung quickly punched him in to give Team #3 the 1-0 win

PLAYOFFS UPDATE
I ain't got much but here it is:
Tomorrow (9/10) playoffs start
at noon:
Team #2 vs Team #1 and Team #3 vs Team #6.
A few points for you clowns to ponder... Team #3 has Mike Jung who just plain wins championships, Team #6 is a bunch of hoodlums who are
just giddy to be on the big stage, Team #2 has Ray Timmons who is 4 for 4 in bridesmaids dresses since 07', and not to forget Team #1, they are the sleeper here after a 6pt forfeit spread to inch into the playoffs. John and Brian walked their way thru the league and the playoff regualr season last year to win the jackets... ANd, correct me if I'm wrong but they still are the current jacket holders.
As the NATUREBOY RIC FLAIR always says, TO BE THE MAN
Final stats, leaders, & standings are up. I know a few people had a few questions about their stats... either email statboy or Sean and we will go back and look at the weekly spreadsheets. ALso, I only have 4 RBI's down for Team #1 last night (Shelby -3, Jimmy-1) and I couldnt read that fucking chicken scratch of a score sheet to figure out the last one so could someone please let me know from that team.
I will do a playoff update in the coming days.
Sportsman's Regain Title
Sportsman's regained the World Championship Corkball title over the weekend. After falling off the wago for the past 2 years, Sportsman's brought in a well oiled machine for the 2011 contest. There was no messing around this year. Every player on this team has either won the batting title (well only Pooch has that), MVP, shutout title, HR title, RBI title, reg. season title, and jackets multiple times over the past 3 years. No off years... No most improved trophies on this squad folks. Only negative mark here is that the ctchers do not know how to throw the ball to their pitchers.
The team consisted of: John Greffert, Jason Pernicaiaro, Sean Peters, Bob Sessler, Sean Peters, Brian Timmons, & John Worcester.
They played So. STL #1 the first game and after a slow start and (2) RBI triple by Pooch being caught, Sportsman's jumped out for 3 runs and only gave up a few hit.
Next it was So .STL #2. We got the hammer this game and the contest started with a wild, but consitent, strike zone. So. STL got 2 hits to start but the next 3 batters were shut down with Uncle Charlie. Sean Peters got the team pumped up in the 2nd with a slicing single followed by some loud yelling. The game was a close 3 hits-to-2 hits in favor of So. STL until the bottom of the 4th. When Pooch and John Worcester. led off with singles... bringing up John Greffet to hit an RBI double. Multiple hits followed after that and we closed the game out 5-0 with John Greffet hitting an RBI triple.
After about an hour layoff, the Reds and Denny Roedner came next. Bob Sessler was going to start this gmae but Sportsman's jumped out early with a John Greffet 3-run HR and a flurry of hits to go up 7-0 before the top of the first was done. Brian Timmons then took the mound to pitch 3 scoreless innings in the 10-0 win.
Now comes the 6-hr waiting period to see who the championship opponenet was. Brian had to go home between games to shower because he put too much Redhot ointemnet on his arm during the last game and the rest of the team along with President Ray TImmons, and club alumni Tom Vernon & Pete Willi watch the losers bracket beat up on each other.
Lemay Corkball emerged to face us in the finals. Bobby took the mound and had a few control problems early letting Lemay go up 1-0 but then immediately came in and the bats started to come alive. Sportsman's took a 7-1 lead after that with Bob taking the frustration of giving up a run out on the opposing pticher. The final came to be 7-2.
Ray TImmons was heard all day screeching as loud as a kid in the candy store. Next year, Sportsman's will return for their 6th repeat!
Oh yeah there was also another team in the tournament with half-Gateway players and with Tim O'Connel, Mark COnnoly, Jake Moehlenbrock, Tom Meadwos and the Future. THey lost their first game to So. STL, won their 2nd but lost their 3rd.
Current standings are done but stats haven't been done yet.
