Golf Tourney Update

Posted on Aug 30, 2009
The golf tourney was once again a success. Lou Cole is retiring from corkball to join the Nationwide Tour. They finished at -15. Some goldenboy from Team Dacey won the longest drive and some dude in orange knickers got closest to the pin.

Golf Tourney Preview

Posted on Aug 28, 2009
Well well well... Tomorrow is the 2nd Annual Corkball Classic Golf Tourney at Triple Lakes Golf Course in Milstadt, IL (click here for directions). We are teeing off at 7:30 am sharp. Crazy Mike is already driving to Gus's to get pretzels and Pat is currently running thru ailses at the store picking up beer, liquor and food.

Last year, Team Cole finished -12 under as did Team Dacey but this year they both are missing their key player in "Lil' Lou" and "Boom-Boom" Greffet... so it should be an open shot for the winner this year.

We have a few new teams this year and a few golfing staples. Let's start off by describing the real gem of a team and a treat to watch on the course... yes, you already know who I'm talking about... "The Hackin' Yanicks" composed of Drew & Justin Yanick, Tony Gogel, & Carl Spackler (Crazy Mike's Son-in-law). The Hackin' Yanicks made so made divots on the course last year Carl Spackler has to load up the back of his cart with pieces of sod so that it was playable for the teams behind them. Tony Gogel could only watch and take the trainwreck in with his trusty cigar. How did Tony get stuck into this mess??? But don't worry if you hear FORE!!!! tomorrow its not from the Hackin' Yanicks... they hit worm burners and the only thing you got a chance of getting hit with is a chunk of flying fescue.

The Super Seniors are also back in it this year with Vern Weida, George Pitts, Mike Horne and 2-putt Tim Gannon. Word on the street is that the Gannon's installed a live bermuda putting green in the Dry Dock cellar and Tim is sinking everything. Watch out if this is true they might be the team to beat.

Another staple is the team of Bobby, Pat, Crazy Mike,& Brian Timmons... but wait Brian dissed them this year to go play with Dan Gogel's team. They are pissed and their team moral is down so just count them out right now.

Statboy has the same team intact except for the lefty. Expect another hole in one from this group and expect the most beer being drank on course by this 4-some.

Bill Walters & Pops who finsihed tied for 3rd at -11 last year with statboys team are back in it but they got another tournament in the afternoon so count on them to be rushing their putts and muffing their chips trying to get out of there in time.

Now we come to the new teams... First off, Team WIkioff color. They'll have 2 of the 3 stooges intact. Folks... this is the team you need to be watching out for. It should be required for Tim O'Connell to be supplying all other 4-somes near him with yellow striped batting helmets. Word of advice for people playing near this group. TAKE FUCKING COVER! Slices, Shanks, & Shannigans will be aplenty from Team Wikoff color. Tim told me last night at the game that Brillo is their secret weapon. They are going to use his muff to fluff up the balls in the rough.

Next we got... a heck of a bunch. Paul Thomas, Ray Timmons, Eric Enright, and a Wacky Lefty Larry Lasley. Ray has been furiosly polsihing & cleaning his permission woods with Pledge all week long. Word is they all hit Tower Tee driving range last night after the post-game booze. This team could be the sleeper folks.

The other stooge, Jim Schlerith, has a team but if he hits the golf balls like he hits a corkball then they don't have a chance. Well I take that back... a golf ball doesn't curve.

Sean Peters supposedly stacked his team with a Missouri state senator, trusty Gerald Brown, and another good golfer. This team is hard to peg. We all know Sean is full of shit but he has 3 good golfers. We might have to take his score and add 3 strokes cus we know Sean will cheat out his ass.

That's all the teams of the 15 or so in it that I can think of off the top of my head so if I forgot you please slap me tomorrow.

Last year Pat Meyer made the closet to the pin on the toughest hole, the 185 yard, par 3 5th, and Lou Cole stuck one for a birdie. Lou has a chance to repeat that feat this year.... But the Longest drive is up for grabs. "Boom-Boom" Greffet boomed one out there about 345 on the 396 yard, par 4, 16th hole on his 2nd hole of the day. I'm thinking Ray has a shot with his permissions and Balata balls.

Big thanks to grillmaster Jason Hanneken for cooking & to Pat Meyer & Crazy Mike for organizing it and getting the food and beverages again this year. The pavilion is a blast before, during, and after the tournament. There is tons of beer and food to drink... and raffles for prizes afterwards. Even if you aren't golfing come on out for the bar-b-que.

Hope everyone gets a good nights rest tonight and we'll see everyone tomorrow on the beautiful Sat. morning!

NOTE TO ALL YOU HOOSIERS: NO CUTOFFS ALLOWED!
